St Mirren have appointed a former Scottish international as their new manager, with the club looking to continue their recent upward trajectory.
The appointment of David Weir comes after a successful spell in charge of Queen of the South last season, during which he led them to promotion from the Scottish Championship.
Weir has already been introduced to the St Mirren squad and is set to take over from John Maskin, who resigned earlier this month following a poor run of form.
"We're delighted to welcome David Weir to St Mirren," said St Mirren chief executive John Kennan. "He's a proven coach with a wealth of experience at senior level, and we're confident that his knowledge and expertise will help us continue our progress."
Weir himself was impressed by the opportunity to work with the St Mirren players: "I'm excited to be joining the club and working with such a talented group of players," he said. "There's no doubt that St Mirren have a bright future ahead of them, and I look forward to helping them achieve success on and off the pitch."
Weir has previously worked under several high-profile managers in Scotland, including Neil Lennon at Celtic and Gordon Strachan at Rangers, and he believes that his experience can be invaluable to the St Mirren squad: "I've had the chance to work with some great coaches and managers in my career, and I believe that my experience will be valuable to the team," he added.
With Weir now in place as manager, St Mirren fans will be hoping that they can build on their impressive start to the season, which saw them defeat both Hearts and Hibernian to open up a three-point lead at the top of the table.
The appointment of Weir marks a significant step forward for the club, and fans will be eager to see how he performs as they look to secure their place in the Scottish Premier League next season.
